Bridgeport vs Clausing

by Jose Rivera » Tue Jun 23, 2009 2:03 am. I have a Clausing mill that I choosed against the larger Bridgeport for three reasons: 1) never planned to work on larger parts. 2) It takes about 1/3 less room than a BP. 3) It operates on 115 Volts.

The serial number is E-37 and the head states it is one of the Spanish made machines. I believe that Clausing purchased Kondia, but I am unsure if the Clausing Kondia mills were still made in Spain or not. Clausing/Kondia FV1 mill. I used to run an old Hurco knee mill that was made with Kondia castings, they may have made the whole machine, not sure. At any rate it was a well made and accurate machine. The mill was made in 1984. I had an old Kondia mill of the same size and it served me well for many years.

One of them is my Clausing Kondia FV-1 mill. Prototrak 2 axis CNC. I have owned it 10 years, the last 3 just machining random parts to build hot rods. I picked up a 1990 Clausing Kondia FV-1 with a Delta Dynapath 20 control this week. It's the fixed head model - no tilt/nod/swivel. It appears to have a 30 taper spindle, which has a quick change adapter in it currently - maybe kwik-switch, not sure yet.
